Alabama Quality Standards for Afterschool

The Alabama Quality Standards for Afterschool provide a comprehensive framework to guide afterschool and summer learning programs in delivering high-quality, impactful experiences for children and youth. These standards, developed in collaboration with educators, community leaders, and youth development experts, serve as a benchmark for excellence in out-of-school time (OST) programs across Alabama.

The standards are designed to ensure programs foster positive youth development and support academic and social-emotional growth. They include key focus areas such as:

  • Program Design and Management: Creating structured, sustainable, and well-resourced programs.

  • Safety and Wellness: Ensuring physical and emotional safety for all participants.

  • Engagement and Relationships: Building strong connections with youth, families, and communities.

  • STEM and Enrichment: Offering diverse learning opportunities, including high-quality STEM activities that prepare students for future success.

By aligning with the Alabama Quality Standards, programs can enhance their effectiveness, secure funding opportunities, and demonstrate measurable outcomes. These standards also provide tools for continuous improvement and help programs align with state and national best practices.

Explore how the Alabama Quality Standards for Afterschool can elevate your program and make a lasting difference in the lives of Alabama’s children and youth.
